Endoscopy Procedures

With endoscopy, your specialist can check the inside of your body without surgery. A tube-like endoscope, with a lens on one end and video camera on the other, can be used to examine the oesophagus, stomach and bowel.

At North Shore Specialist Day Hospital, we have a dedicated endoscopy theatre for our consultant gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons. The unit has Olympus High Definition Endoscopy System to carry out a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and polyp removal.

Our expert gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons specialise in diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bowel and colon cancer, Chrohn’s disease and coeliac disease.

All our procedures meet the GENCA Guidelines for Infection Control in Endoscopy. Endoscopes are reprocessed through an Automated Endoscope Reprocessor (AER).

What to expect after endoscopy

An endoscopy is usually painless, with no scar or stitches. After 24 hours, you’ll most likely be able to resume your normal activities.

Are there any complications?

Your specialist can give you advice on what to expect during and after endoscopy. Please contact them immediately if you experience any pain or problems.
